Okay then; Been reading in the trade press that the FCC is getting very serious about unlicensed radio stations. The Part 15 of the FCC regs, reads, that if a radio signal is over a certain power level then it must be licensed. Thing is the painful steps one must go through to get a fully licensed station. Like us here at HazzardAyre. The Knytes/Wolf-Pack who owns KKOD AM 1240 here in Evanston Wyoming, have went through more hell and frustration than you could possibly imagine. Now just need to find a place to put the station and get on air talent for it. But I know of at least two unlicensed stations. One is owned by a friend who repairs our computers for the Wyoming HQ, here run's a low watt station, and one out on U.S. 189, just shy of the Wyoming/Utah border headed out to Woodruff/Randolph.
Fines of $15,000.00 and even more are being levied, plus fed prison time. The best alternative is podcasting and cyber air radio. But even there you have restrictions, mainly copyright clearences . But life does go on, but you should not try to build a pirate station. You might think just because your out in the deep woods somewhere the FCC wont find you. Most often not until somebody's TV goes screwy because of your overflow signal, or an aircraft that couldn't communicate because your on his channel or close enough with it overpower. The pilot calls the FAA, the FAA, calls the FCC, and somebody comes looking, just like revenuers. You might away with it for awhile, but eventually the Feds come calling. Unless you can demonstrate that your trying to get legal most likely wont phaze that Fed enforcer. If you run a station, you can be legal as a low power Part15 station any higher your going to feel the fire from the FCC.
Bottom line do it legally or a visit from some very nasty people will happen.
